In just three weeks time, on June 29th, the Lasting Impressions 2018 study day will be kicking off. We are delighted to be welcoming students and speakers from as far afield as Brighton and even Croatia to Newcastle upon Tyne for a day of talks, workshops, and lots more besides. For any attendees who are new to Newcastle, please find below some useful information that will help you to navigate the city.
The study day will begin at 10am at the Laing Art Gallery, New Bridge Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8AG. At around 3pm, we will be moving to the Hatton Gallery, Kings Road, Newcastle University, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 7RU. All venues are a short walk from the train station, shown on the map below.
If you are in need of overnight accommodation, many options can be found on the Get North 2018 website. Booking.com also has many recommendations for hotels conveniently located for the train station.
You will be arriving in Newcastle at a very exciting time as the Great Exhibition of the North will run from the 22nd of June to the 9th of September 2018. The exhibition will tell the story of the north of England through its innovators, artists, designers and businesses. At exhibition hubs such as the Sage Gateshead and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary art, gigs and theatrical entertainments will be staged throughout the Great Exhibition, and trails will be set up around the city to tell its fascinating history. For further details, full programmes are available online. Additional touristic information and maps will be available on the study day, courtesy of Newcastle Gateshead.
